4 Easy Steps to Remove Mud from Your Area Rugs – Sedona AZ

4 Easy Steps to Remove Mud from Your Area Rugs – Sedona AZ

Kids and dogs are terrible when it comes to showing any restraint in keeping their muddy boots and paws off of your area rugs, aren’t they?  If only there were some easy way to reason with them.  Unfortunately, there isn’t.  Luckily, your local area rug cleaning experts at Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care are here to help with any questions about maintenance for your rugs in between professional cleaning.

Here are four easy steps to get that mud off of your area rugs:

Step One: Remove any solids off of your rug – wait until the mud is dry and then carefully vacuum up the dry clumps with the hose of your vacuum.  Try to avoid making contact with the surface of your rug so you don’t accidentally force the mud deeper into your rug’s pile.

Step Two: Mix 1 tablespoon of colorless dish soap to 1 cup of cool water.  Take a white cloth and damp with the cleaning solution.  Then, carefully blot this damp cloth over each color of the rug in an inconspicuous spot to make sure that the dyes won’t begin bleeding.  If you see color being transferred onto the cloth, STOP YOUR SPOTTING EFFORTS and have Arizona Oriental take care of the spot for you.

Step Three: If your spot testing shows no color being transferred, use the tips of your fingers and gently apply the cleaning mixture to the spot.  Move from the outer edge of the spot toward the center – this will help prevent the spot from getting any larger.  Use white paper towels or cotton cloths and gently blot it up.  DO NOT SCRUB!  Scrubbing forces the dirt deeper into the fibers of the rug.  Repeat this step until you’ve achieved success with the removal of that mud.

Step Four: Rinse with clear water and pat dry with clean paper towels or a cotton cloth.

Hopefully these steps will help when your dog or child (or both) tracks mud into your home and across your area rug.  If you aren’t able to successfully remove the spot or if there are other cleaning needs for your rug, feel free to give Arizona Oriental in Prescott AZ a call and we’ll care for all your rug’s needs!

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floors and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
