An Area Rug Fringe Repair You Have to See to Believe!
Hi folks! Ruthie here with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott AZ and today I thought I would share a few photos of one of our client’s recent rugs that was in serious need of some fringe repair.
This is a machine-woven rug that had been in our client’s family since his grandfather bought it. He still very much loved the rug and wanted to keep it, both as an accent rug in his home but also as a piece of his grandfather and family history. The rug is well worn, as you can see in these pictures, but the major concern for him was the fringe of the rug.
The fringe was an add-on to the rug and wasn’t woven into the rug itself, so it was easy enough to remove. But instead of leaving the edge raw and prone to unraveling (since the fringe had been protecting the edge of the rug before), our repair shop added side cords to the entire perimeter of the rug. Now it looks brand new while still retaining its original charm and holding on to the rug’s history.
There are multiple different ways to handle the repair of fringes, but you should NEVER just cut them off of your rug!
