At-Home Spotting Solutions for Your Area Rugs – Sedona AZ

We all know how life tends to happen when we least expect it - something is bound to spill on your floors at least once.  If you have area rugs, it can be tough staying on top of making sure they stay clean and how to clean up after an emergency spill can be a problem for every rug owner.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR RUG OWNERS TO HAVE
IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO HANDLE EMERGENCY SPILLS!

Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here and today I thought I would share some at-home rug spotting tips with you.  Hopefully this will help to prevent any area rug disasters in your home.  Of course, these are no substitutes for thorough, professional cleanings, but they may help to save your rug!

I always try to make sure that I have these three things on hand to help with area rug cleaning in between professional cleanings for my own area rugs.

  1. Paper towels.  It’s important to always take prompt action when a drink spills in removing extra fluid from your area rug.  Time is of the essence!  The longer you wait to extract, the greater the odds are that the liquid will seep deeper into your rug.  Not only does this make cleanup tougher, it can also lead to permanent staining.  Plain white paper towels are the best tool for absorbing excess fluid!
  2. Baby wipes help to remove fresh stains on your rug.  Remember, never rub a stain!  You’ll only spread the stain around and you will also force the stain further into the fibers of your rug.  Baby wipes work great at helping to remove the color of the stain and also help in preventing further staining being caused elsewhere in your rug.  These are great for if you ever have an ink spill!
  3. White vinegar is more than just a popular kitchen ingredient, it also has a lot of uses in tackling food and drink staining.  A teaspoon of white vinegar mixed with a cup of warm water will create a highly effective cleaning solution.  Using your fingertips to gently apply the solution to the stain, work from the outside in toward the center and then blot with paper towels once you’re done.

Hopefully these tips will help you face down that inevitable rug emergency.  Knowing what to do can really spell the difference between your rug being okay and a total disaster!  You should also know what your limits are.  Not every spill or stain can be removed by what I’ve listed above, so make sure you call us at Arizona Oriental if you can’t handle a stain yourself.  We provide free cleaning estimates and are also ready and eager to answer any questions you may have!

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floor and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
