Can I Use My Rug Upside Down? Prescott Valley Rug Cleaning

Can I use my rug Upside Down? A piled rug can never be turned upside down. The face fibers of wool are far too fragile to be subjected to such harsh handling. Look at a piled rug, and you’ll find that the top side is soft while the underside is much more durable.

Hi there, It’s Ruthie from Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott, AZ

A customer brought in an area rug that we had cleaned for them some eight months earlier. He said the rug was causing issues, and a dark, unidentified substance was left on the floor. There seemed to be a mound of dark dust on his tile.

His wife had turned the rug inside out, hoping to create a smoother surface against her freshly completed tile. However, the delicate wool face fibers were exposed to the hard subfloor, tiled with deep grout lines. Grout comprises a combination of sand and cement, like sandpaper.

This is rough and abrasive when dry, almost like sandpaper. Unfortunately, the rug fibers did not do well under such conditions and violence. This rug is also a long runner that can be found in their hallway. Runners lead highly active lives, particularly given how many times people walk up and down the corridor. The fragile rug fibers were being forced to grind against the tile and, worse yet, the grout with each pass under the individual’s weight. The fibers were ground away because of this.

Why Rugs Should Not Be Used Upside Down

To avoid wear and tear, rugs should be placed on top of a cushion. It is never a good idea to flip a stacked rug upside down. For this purpose, American Indian rugs can be flipped over, and both sides can be used equally.

Since there is no soft-cut pile on either side of a dhurrie or flat woven rug, it can be used on both sides. I hope you found this knowledge to be both useful and interesting. Here at Arizona Oriental in Prescott, AZ, we try to help as much as we can.
