Can My Rug Be Cleaned if it has Ragged Edges? Prescott Valley AZ

Hi, Ruthie here at Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott.  I thought today that I would discuss rugs that come into our facility for cleaning that happen to have some form of damage.  Fringes may be torn or perhaps after years of use, the side cords have begun to unravel.  Depending on the severity of the damages, we may make the recommendation that the damage be repaired or at least secured.  Securing will protect these loose, unravelling edges and allow us to clean the rug.  There are times when rugs come to Arizona Oriental as an unravelling mess and any agitation is apt to cause further unravelling.  We are unable to clean a rug without a certain amount of agitation to loosen and remove soil, so it is imperative to secure prior to cleaning to avoid additional damage in these instances.

At Arizona Oriental, we do advise our clients when we see a need to secure damage prior to our cleaning.  We also provide repair estimates to properly mend the damage.  Securing is a good start in caring for your rug, it is not the same as a restorative repair.  Restoration helps preserve both the rug itself as well as the value of the rug.  Some rug owners will come into us with a rug chewed up by a puppy or vacuum cleaner and ask what the value of their rug is.  In the current condition, the value is diminished considerably, so like I said restoration does help to preserve the rug’s value.

Keep in mind that having repairs done when damage first occurs minimizes the damage.  If left unattended, damage is bound to worsen and create even more damage, which devalues the rug and costs more to repair in the long run.
