How Often to Clean My Wool Rug? Prescott Valley Rug Cleaning

A wool rug only must be deep cleaned once a year; mild spot cleaning can be done as needed. To keep a wool rug in good condition, rotate it every six months for even wear and advise friends and family to remove their shoes before walking on it.

Hi, I’m Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott, AZ. How often to clean a wool rug is a common question in Arizona Oriental Specialty Rug Care.

Wool does an outstanding job of hiding a lot of dirt, as a general rule. A dense pile on most wool rugs helps the soil squirm right to the rug’s bottom, where it quickly spreads out.

Frequent vacuuming helps enormously, but deep, thorough, proper cleaning is not a replacement.

Here you can learn a little more about when you have wool rugs cleaned by a Prescott Valley area rug cleaner.

How Often to have Area Rug Cleaner Clean Rugs

The basic rule of thumb for how often wool rugs should be washed is every two to three years. But, of course, this varies based on things such as pet urine accidents, food spills, and so on.

To avoid damage to the fiber and base, some spots should be professionally removed as soon as possible. Another suggestion is to be cautious of the growing traffic soil.

If your rug is in a high-traffic location and it seems dingy because of the traffic, the rug is telling you it can no longer handle any more build-up and that it’s time to clean it.

I can tell you from personal experience that if a rug is neglected and excessive soil build-up occurs, the rug fibers have a lower chance of responding completely to cleaning. As a result, you may end up with permanent damage to the fabric.

When you see this, your rug is experiencing “dry soil”; what is happening is that the dry soil is microscopically grinding away at the fibers, causing permanent, irreversible damage.

Rugs in high-traffic areas can be cleaned once a year. Rugs in low-traffic locations, such as a guest room, require less cleaning and can last up to three years before needing professional rug cleaning from Arizona Oriental.

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floor, and remember, a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
