While adding a sleeve to the back of a rug perhaps isn’t an official repair, it is important to hang your rug properly because hanging improperly can damage your rug.  When sleeves are added correctly you can enjoy the rug on your wall just like your other pieces of art. A professional addition of a sleeve allows the hanging pole to slip through the sleeve while there is NO EVIDENCE of the sleeve from the face side of the rug. No ugly stitches showing through!  And the sleeve can always be removed if at some point you change your mind about hanging your rug on the wall.
