New Puppy? Watch Out For Your Rugs!

New Puppy? Watch Out For Your Rugs!

So you’ve decided to make the leap and bring a new furry friend into your home - a puppy!  Puppies bring a LOT of joy to a lot of people’s homes and certainly enrich many people’s lives.  Ruthie with Arizona Oriental here in Prescott AZ and I know I’ve always enjoyed having a dog in my home as a companion.  Puppies, for all the good things they come with, also come with a lot of work. Especially when it comes to potty training, am I right?  If you have area rugs in your home, this potty training for your new puppy can really become quite the chore.

Here are a couple of quick tips when it comes to new puppies and area rugs:

  1. Try to keep the puppy away from your area rugs!  If you can, perhaps roll them up and store them somewhere safe until the puppy has been completely house trained.  This will keep all puppy accidents from your area rugs - just make sure you have your rugs stored and wrapped properly!

  2. If an accident does happen on your area rug, make sure you blot it up with white paper towels or a plain white towel as soon as possible!  Don’t rub the area that the accident happened - blotting will lift the spot from the rug without spreading it around the rug.

Keep in mind that if an animal accident does happen on your rug, you should have the rug professionally, thoroughly cleaned with us here at Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care as soon as possible!  Urine can destabilize a lot of things in your area rug - from the dyes and colors to the integrity of the rug fibers. Dry rot is always a concern for rugs that have had old animal urine accidents on them or have a lot of animal urine deposits.  Dry rot weakens the fibers and eventually leads to cuts, tears, and holes in your rugs.

With us at Arizona Oriental, your rug will be thoroughly treated to remove the animal urine deposit from your rug.  We are also able to stabilize the colors in your rug to prevent them from running while we wash it. We can also assist in treating your rug and protecting it for storage if you need to keep it put away until puppy is fully trained!

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floor and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
