Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott and today I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the most important first steps when a rug comes into our rug washing facility – the dye migration test!
At Arizona Oriental, we always do an initial, pre-cleaning inspection for each rug that comes into our facility. By doing this, our expert area rug cleaning technicians are able to determine what method of cleaning each rug needs.
Want to know what is probably the most important step of the pre-inspection process? Looking for pre-existing conditions is good for figuring out how the rug needs to be cleaned, but even more important is to know whether or not the colors in each rug are stable.
This is why we perform a dye migration test on each area rug that comes into our shop. If they need to be pre-treated to stabilize the colors for the cleaning, then we need to know! When dyes are bleeding, it’s an indication that they were not set properly during manufacturing.
If the dye migration results come back negative, then there’s nothing to worry about! However, say that the colors in your rug are not stable and we need to do a pre-treatment to stabilize them. Our pre-treatment is designed to lock colors into their dye sites so that they won’t move when the rug is being cleaned. Nearly every rug responds very well to this treatment and we don’t typically have any issues in preventing colors from moving.
So it’s pretty clear why the bleed test is the key first step in our cleaning process!
It really makes a world of difference when we clean a rug if we know whether or not the colors are stable. Most of these carpet cleaners don’t even think about if the colors are stable and don’t have the tools available to stabilize them. This can lead to a whole mess of trouble.
